Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) Undergraduate Scholarship

Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) is a statutory body that protects against the loss of bank deposits, as well as takaful and insurance benefits in the unlikely event of a member institution failure and is mandated to promote public confidence in the stability of the financial system in Malaysia.

PHILOSOPHY
The programme is intended to reach out to deserving Malaysians who are in need of financial aid to pursue their education.
WHAT DOES THE SCHOLARSHIP OFFER?
  • Up to RM10,000 a year in course fees or the actual cost, whichever is lower;
  • Up to RM2,000 in allowances for learning aids including books, computer, stationeries and other materials per semester or up to RM4,000 per year;
  • Up to a maximum of RM6,000 allowance per year or RM500 per month;
  • There will be no bond to this scholarship and the recipients are not required to repay the amount of scholarship awarded.
  • Induction Programme
    An induction programme will be provided to all recipients of the PIDM Scholarship Award. This is to ensure the recipients understand the mandate, vision, mission and values of PIDM.
  • Mentoring and Coaching
    Each recipient will be assigned a “mentor” from the Senior Management team. The mentor will provide consistent and continuous mentoring and coaching throughout the programme. This is to ensure that the recipients have the necessary support and are able to leverage on the experience of our management team.
  • Internship Programme
    As part of the strategic design of the programme, graduates will be offered paid six-month internship opportunities in PIDM to apply what they have learned in an operational context (subject to a minimum ‘Cumulative Grade Point Average’ (CGPA) of 3.00 or a minimum of ‘Second Class Upper’ in the final examinations).
In summary, the programme will cover the above fees and allowance up to a maximum of RM20,000 per person per annum. During the period of internship with PIDM, each recipient will receive a monthly allowance of RM1,000 for a six-month period.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
The scholarship will be offered on a yearly basis to a maximum of 10 successful applicants, to undertake up to four years of undergraduate studies locally.
This notice of offer for the scholarship is open for applications from all Malaysian students in need of funding. Students who have started their undergraduate studies are also eligible to apply provided they meet the requirements.

  1. You must be a Malaysian citizen under 25 years of age (as of 1 January 2015) and be a full time student;
  2. You must have good academic results in SPM/STPM or equivalent (with credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English);
  3. You  must be a full-time student and have gained admission into any of the courses related to the field of studies listed here, which has been approved and accredited by Lembaga Akreditasi Negara (LAN), in a college or university in Malaysia as approved by PIDM;
  4. Not be in a position to take on the course without financial aid or award;
  5. Not be in receipt of any other scholarship, financial aid or award from any institution, organisation or foundation;
  6. Not have been terminated from or ceased to be in receipt of any other scholarship, financial aid or award from any institution, organisation or foundation, due to disciplinary action against the applicant;
  7. Applications will only be considered if they meet the eligibility criteria; the specific field of study and the list of colleges and universities as approved by PIDM.

PRE-REQUISITES AND CONDITIONS
The list of pre-requisites includes:

  1. A requirement to provide information on income for the applicant and/or parent(s);
  2. To submit a written essay in English of approximately 1,000 words on your chosen field of study and your aspirations in contributing to the financial services landscape and the country in general.
  3. The offer of scholarship will be subject to acceptance of the terms and conditions of a scholarship agreement with PIDM.
  4. Recipients of the scholarship award will be required to fulfil conditions as set out in the scholarship agreement including, but not limited to, maintaining a minimum ‘Cumulative Grade Point Average’ (CGPA) of 3.00 or achieve a minimum of ‘Second Class Upper’ in the final examinations.

CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED SPONSORSHIP
PIDM may discontinue the scholarship or any part of the scholarship, at any time should the recipient of the scholarship:

  1. be unable to continue his or her studies, for whatever reason;
  2. fail to achieve a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 in any semester;
  3. fail to maintain conduct which is consistent with the rules and regulations specified by the college or university and is placed on probation; or
  4. is in breach of any of the terms and conditions of the PIDM scholarship agreement.

Merdeka Scholarships




Overview
The Khazanah-Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Merdeka Scholarships, established to mark the 50th anniversary of Malaysia's independence, are intended to enable outstanding Malaysian students to undertake postgraduate study at the University of Oxford.
Subject areas may be drawn from a range of fields. Candidates are required to demonstrate a high level of academic achievement, and how their study will make a contribution to the future needs of Malaysia.
Awards will include University and College fees, accommodation and subsistence allowances, and return air fares. Awards are renewable annually through the duration of the programme of study.


Eligibility
1.Citizens of Malaysia
2. Have an excellent record of academic achievement and a proven capacity for independent research.
3. Attention will also be given to leadership potential and ability to communicate.

4. Candidates will be expected to show how their careers and the wider interests of Malaysia will benefit from a period of study at Oxford.

Fields of study covered by the Scholarship Programme:
a) Business: Economics, Finance, Investment, Law, Actuarial Science;
b) Bio-medical Sciences: Bio-chemistry, Food Technology, Bio-technology, Bio-engineering, Molecular Biology, Genomics and Bio-informatics;
c) Engineering: Electronics, Micro-Electronics, Nano-technology, Materials Science.
Other fields may be considered.

How to Apply

To apply, applicants are required to submit the following:
  • The completed application form (please click to download the application form);
  • A signed personal statement of no more than 1,000 words that includes a description of the intended area of study and describes how this will benefit Malaysia. The statement should also outline the applicant's reasons for wanting to study at Oxford, and summarise the personal qualities that would make them a worthy recipient of a scholarship;
  • A list of academic qualifications and other awards and honours received;
  • A statement of the status of their application to the University of Oxford;
  • Two confidential letters of recommendation from referees who can assess in detail the applicant's academic performance and potential. The recommendation letters must reach the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies by the application deadline.

Yayasan Sime Darby Undergraduate Scholarship Programme (Overseas)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Malaysian
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities and potential
  • Actively involved in extra-curricular activities and sporting events
  • Candidates with at least a conditional offer from universities as specified by Yayasan Sime Darby will be given FIRST priority. Scholarship will only be effective upon receiving firm offer.

Minimum Academic Achievement:

  • STPM (CGPA >3.5)
  • Local Matriculation / Diploma (CGPA of at least 3.5)
  • ‘A Level’ (minimum 3A)
  • Australian TER SAM / AUSMAT (minimum 90.0)
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (minimum 36.0)
  • International Canadian Pre-University (minimum 85%)
  • Individuals pursuing their first or second year undergraduate studies must have latest academic result of at least 2nd class upper division
Note: Previous academic achievements will be taken into consideration

  • Medical and Allied Health Science : Medicine (MBBS), Pharmacy, Nursing, Dietetics, Radiation Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Physics, Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT)

Value of Scholarship (Overseas)

The sponsorship covers the following:
  • Full tuition and academic fees
  • Living allowance
  • Book and equipment allowance
  • Computer allowance (one-off)
  • Settling-in-allowance (one-off)
  • Clothing allowance (one-off)
  • Student visa and passport
  • Shipping allowance (one-off at the end of course)
  • Flight allowance (at the beginning and end of course)
  • Insurance coverage (if applicable)

Recipients of scholarship will have the opportunity to undergo Scholars Development Programme and experience work exposure through internship within the Sime Darby Group of Companies.
