Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) Undergraduate Scholarship

Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) is a statutory body that protects against the loss of bank deposits, as well as takaful and insurance benefits in the unlikely event of a member institution failure and is mandated to promote public confidence in the stability of the financial system in Malaysia.

PHILOSOPHY
The programme is intended to reach out to deserving Malaysians who are in need of financial aid to pursue their education.
WHAT DOES THE SCHOLARSHIP OFFER?
  • Up to RM10,000 a year in course fees or the actual cost, whichever is lower;
  • Up to RM2,000 in allowances for learning aids including books, computer, stationeries and other materials per semester or up to RM4,000 per year;
  • Up to a maximum of RM6,000 allowance per year or RM500 per month;
  • There will be no bond to this scholarship and the recipients are not required to repay the amount of scholarship awarded.
  • Induction Programme
    An induction programme will be provided to all recipients of the PIDM Scholarship Award. This is to ensure the recipients understand the mandate, vision, mission and values of PIDM.
  • Mentoring and Coaching
    Each recipient will be assigned a “mentor” from the Senior Management team. The mentor will provide consistent and continuous mentoring and coaching throughout the programme. This is to ensure that the recipients have the necessary support and are able to leverage on the experience of our management team.
  • Internship Programme
    As part of the strategic design of the programme, graduates will be offered paid six-month internship opportunities in PIDM to apply what they have learned in an operational context (subject to a minimum ‘Cumulative Grade Point Average’ (CGPA) of 3.00 or a minimum of ‘Second Class Upper’ in the final examinations).
In summary, the programme will cover the above fees and allowance up to a maximum of RM20,000 per person per annum. During the period of internship with PIDM, each recipient will receive a monthly allowance of RM1,000 for a six-month period.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
The scholarship will be offered on a yearly basis to a maximum of 10 successful applicants, to undertake up to four years of undergraduate studies locally.
This notice of offer for the scholarship is open for applications from all Malaysian students in need of funding. Students who have started their undergraduate studies are also eligible to apply provided they meet the requirements.

  1. You must be a Malaysian citizen under 25 years of age (as of 1 January 2015) and be a full time student;
  2. You must have good academic results in SPM/STPM or equivalent (with credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English);
  3. You  must be a full-time student and have gained admission into any of the courses related to the field of studies listed here, which has been approved and accredited by Lembaga Akreditasi Negara (LAN), in a college or university in Malaysia as approved by PIDM;
  4. Not be in a position to take on the course without financial aid or award;
  5. Not be in receipt of any other scholarship, financial aid or award from any institution, organisation or foundation;
  6. Not have been terminated from or ceased to be in receipt of any other scholarship, financial aid or award from any institution, organisation or foundation, due to disciplinary action against the applicant;
  7. Applications will only be considered if they meet the eligibility criteria; the specific field of study and the list of colleges and universities as approved by PIDM.

PRE-REQUISITES AND CONDITIONS
The list of pre-requisites includes:

  1. A requirement to provide information on income for the applicant and/or parent(s);
  2. To submit a written essay in English of approximately 1,000 words on your chosen field of study and your aspirations in contributing to the financial services landscape and the country in general.
  3. The offer of scholarship will be subject to acceptance of the terms and conditions of a scholarship agreement with PIDM.
  4. Recipients of the scholarship award will be required to fulfil conditions as set out in the scholarship agreement including, but not limited to, maintaining a minimum ‘Cumulative Grade Point Average’ (CGPA) of 3.00 or achieve a minimum of ‘Second Class Upper’ in the final examinations.

CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED SPONSORSHIP
PIDM may discontinue the scholarship or any part of the scholarship, at any time should the recipient of the scholarship:

  1. be unable to continue his or her studies, for whatever reason;
  2. fail to achieve a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 in any semester;
  3. fail to maintain conduct which is consistent with the rules and regulations specified by the college or university and is placed on probation; or
  4. is in breach of any of the terms and conditions of the PIDM scholarship agreement.

MNRB 2011 Scholarship Awards

MNRB  SCHOLARSHIP FUND, a fund established by MNRB HOLDINGS BERHAD (a Company listed on the Main Board of the Bursa Malaysia and a subsidiary of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB)), invites scholarship applications from young Malaysians planning to persue tertiary on a full-time basis at any recognised institution of higher learning.

Fields of Study
Actuarial Science - Professional Actuarial Qualification
Risk Management - Matriculation/Foundation, Diploma, First Degree
Insurance - Matriculation/Foundation, Diploma, First Degree
 
Value of Award
  • Tuition fees based on actual for students in public universities or colleges and a maximum of RM8,000.00 per annum for students in private universities or colleges. The actual tuition fees are paid for overseas studies.
  • Allowance of RM8,000 per annum for local Matriculation/Foundation or Diploma courses and
    RM10,000 per annum for First Degree courses.
  • Professional Actuarial Qualification - Subsistence allowance and related fees imposed by the Actuarial Association e.g. membership fees, examination fees, study materials.
A bonding period is attached to the scholarship.

Selection Criteria
Insurance and risk Management
  • below 23 years of age
  • SPM - Obtained at least grade A in a minimum of 6 subjects (inclusive of English, Mathematics and Science); OR
  • STPM - Obtained at least 3As and pass the General Paper; OR
  • Matriculation, Diploma or Degree - Obtained a CGPA of at least 3.50
Actuarial Science - Professional Actuarial Qualification
  • Below 26 years of age
  • Graduates with Master of Science in Actuarial Science and/ or Actuarial Management
  • Graduates with Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science from recognised overseas universities are also encourage to apply
  • Preferably single
Additional Requirements
  • Must write a 1-page English essay (on a separate sheet of paper) describing reason for applying for the scholarship, benefits from the course of study and education & career plans
  • Preference will be given to those active in co-corricular activities
  • Must not be a recipient of a scholarship/loan/financial assistance from any other organisations
The offer is subject to the applicants gaining entry into recognized local or overseas institutes of higher learning to pursue the approved courses

Trial SPM/ STPM Results
Candidates with TRIAL SPM/STPM RESULTS, who meet the above mentioned selection criteria are also encouraged to apply. Selected candidates will be given provisional offer, subject to the variance between the actual results and the trial results being within acceptable range.

    Merdeka Scholarships




    Overview
    The Khazanah-Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Merdeka Scholarships, established to mark the 50th anniversary of Malaysia's independence, are intended to enable outstanding Malaysian students to undertake postgraduate study at the University of Oxford.
    Subject areas may be drawn from a range of fields. Candidates are required to demonstrate a high level of academic achievement, and how their study will make a contribution to the future needs of Malaysia.
    Awards will include University and College fees, accommodation and subsistence allowances, and return air fares. Awards are renewable annually through the duration of the programme of study.


    Eligibility
    1.Citizens of Malaysia
    2. Have an excellent record of academic achievement and a proven capacity for independent research.
    3. Attention will also be given to leadership potential and ability to communicate.

    4. Candidates will be expected to show how their careers and the wider interests of Malaysia will benefit from a period of study at Oxford.

    Fields of study covered by the Scholarship Programme:
    a) Business: Economics, Finance, Investment, Law, Actuarial Science;
    b) Bio-medical Sciences: Bio-chemistry, Food Technology, Bio-technology, Bio-engineering, Molecular Biology, Genomics and Bio-informatics;
    c) Engineering: Electronics, Micro-Electronics, Nano-technology, Materials Science.
    Other fields may be considered.

    How to Apply

    To apply, applicants are required to submit the following:
    • The completed application form (please click to download the application form);
    • A signed personal statement of no more than 1,000 words that includes a description of the intended area of study and describes how this will benefit Malaysia. The statement should also outline the applicant's reasons for wanting to study at Oxford, and summarise the personal qualities that would make them a worthy recipient of a scholarship;
    • A list of academic qualifications and other awards and honours received;
    • A statement of the status of their application to the University of Oxford;
    • Two confidential letters of recommendation from referees who can assess in detail the applicant's academic performance and potential. The recommendation letters must reach the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies by the application deadline.
    The closing date for applications is 10th January 2011.

    BURSA MALAYSIA a.k.a. KUALA LUMPUR STOCK EXCHANGE Scholarship

    Information

    1. 4-year scholarship programme 
    2. Designed to target best-in-class achievers who have obtained excellent results in major government examinations e.g. Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) or Matriculation, for sponsorship in local public or private universities. 
    3. Since 2006, the scholarship has been awarded to five selected students each year, of which four have since graduated and placed within Bursa Malaysia’s workforce.

    The scholarship programme is now open for application for students who have secured a place at any local public or private university for a full-time undergraduate for the 2010 intake.

    Background Information About BURSA MALAYSIA

    Bursa Malaysia Berhad is an exchange holding company, listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities, operates a fully integrated exchange, offering the complete range of exchange-related services, including trading, clearing, settlement and depository services. They also provide information services related to the Malaysian securities market.




    Bursa Malaysia Scholarships Scheme

    Each recipient of the Bursa Malaysia Scholarship Programme received an allowance as well as a laptop to aid them during their course of study, especially for research and work assignments.

    After the students graduate, they will participate in a two-year practical training programme in Bursa Malaysia which will give them an exposure to the various jobs available at the exchange.

    The five deserving scholars were chosen based on their academic achievements of an average CGPA of no less than 3.5 points.

    Apart from that, the stringent selection process included writing skills, general knowledge of the capital market and globalisation, communication skills as well as motivation, leadership and teamwork.

    MNRB 2009 Scholarship Awards

    FIELDS OF STUDY

    VALUE OF AWARD
    • Tuition fees based on actual for students pursuing studies at public universities or colleges and
      a maximum of RM8,000.00 per annum for students pursuing studies at private universities or
      colleges. The actual tuition fees are paid for overseas studies.
    • Allowance of RM8,000.00 per year for local Matriculation/Foundation or Diploma courses and
      RM10,000.00 per year for First Degree or Professional courses. For overseas studies, adequate
      living and relocation allowances will be given.

    A bonding period is attached to the scholarship, where the recipient may be required to serve the MNRB Group or any of the companies designated by the Trustees of the MNRB Scholarship Fund.







    SELECTION CRITERIA

    The applicant: -
    • Should be below 23 years of age.
    • Should have obtained at least grade 2A in a minimum of 6 subjects inclusive of English, Mathematics and Science in the SPM examination results; OR
    • Should obtained at least 3As and pass the General Paper at the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) examination; OR
    • Should obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.5 for Diploma or Matriculation
    • Must have proof of financial needs.
    • Must write a short 1page essay (in English and on a separate sheet of paper) describing reasons for applying the scholarship, benefit from the course of study including education and career plans.
    • Preference will be given to those active in co-curricular activities.
    • Must not be a recipient of a scholarship/loan/financial assistance from any other organisation.
    • Employees working in the local insurance industry or their children are encouraged to apply.

    The offer is subject to the applicants gaining entry into the recognised local institute of higher learning to pursue the approved courses.







    TRIAL SPM/STPM RESULTS

    Candidates with TRIAL SPM/STPM RESULTS, who meet the above mentioned selection criteria are also encouraged to apply for the scholarship. Selected candidates will be given provisional offer of the scholarship to pursue the approved courses subject to the variance between the actual results and the trial results being within acceptable range.
